MANNERISMS AND APPEARANCE
Theme: Primal Guardian or Elemental Priest
Glata was born on the coldest night his nomadic tribe had seen in decades, some viewed it as a good omen while others thought he might be cursed. And even as a baby, people would swear that the air was always a slight bit cooler around him, as if he was always surrounded by the cool night air of his birth. As he gre into childhood he loved to hear myths, stories, and epic tales of great heroes saving innocent people from evil. He dreamed of being a great hero to his tribe and saving them from a great evil threat.
As years wore on, his dreams of becoming a hero faded and he apprenticed under the primal shaman, Tuzvihar, that led his people. He showed great promise, grasping the fundamental aspects of shaping and channeling the primal forces to aid and lead the tribe. The old shaman fell ill, and the harsh desert life prooved too much for Tuzvihar. As his health failed he called upon Glata to lead the tribe. Although he was unsure of his own abilities to lead, Glata dutifully took his place as an elemental priest, taking the ceremonial amulet, and began serving as the spiritual leader for his people.
Despite his natural talent for harnessing the primal forces, he was never able to fill the role left by Tuzvihar and was inadequate in meeting the needs of his people. As the respect of his people dwindled, his confidence faltered and his doubt of his own abilities began to grow. Then came the day a roving band of slavers attacked the tribe, seeing his people cut down and captured awakened something within him. Glata screamed a bellowing challenge and the hot desert air was chilled beyond what anyone thought possible. Ice formed across Glata, coating his armor and weapons and spread out across the ground where he stood.
The nearby raiders turned their attention on Glata, momentarily ignoring the tibe members who milled about. The ensuing battle was hard and many tribe members were killed or abducted, but if not for Glata's actions the whole tribe might have been lost. Still, his shame at failing the tribe weighed heavily upon him, the tribe was shattered beyond recovery and the few survivors had to seek refuge with other tribes. Glata himself sought nothing but to find those who had attacked his tribe.
Armed with the ceremonial medallion worn by the elemntal priest his tribe, his hammer which has ever since that day been infused with a chilling cold, and a suit of armor that he had crafted to ensure that he would never be caught off guard again. Glata has wandered seeking someone who could lead him to the raiders that destroyed his tribe and somehow make amends for his past. He has sworn to use his power over the stone and ice to defend any who would need it and fight against slavery, tyranny, and opression.
